Have you ever thought about how God uses ordinary people like you and me to communicate a message? He used the Angels to announce the coming of the King of Israel. He used the Shepherds, bursting with praise, to tell the story of the birth of Jesus. He used Joseph, a righteous man, to show compassion and forgiveness. And, He used Mary to demonstrate obedience and passion for God.
One ordinary object that comes to mind this time of year is the Christmas tree. Its direction of the needles points to God above. The red speaks of the blood of a Savior. The lights remind us that the Savior is the Light to the world and the green represents Life. Finally, the presents remind us of gifts, with the greatest gift of all in the Savior to mankind.
People and things may be ordinary, but not when God is involved.
