Why Do We Celebrate President’s Day As A Federal Holiday?

Lincoln Quote The day was originally celebrated in honor of the first President of the United States and his successors. In the 1970’s the date was changed to the third Monday of February. A three day weekend was created and Federal employees and most state and local governments, schools and the post offices had a day to celebrate President’s day off work of all things. Most of the business world in America still works but we enjoy less traffic, no new mail to sift through, find something for all the kids to do – like go to the mall or to the movies, shop all the Presidents days sales and be thankful we live in America, still the greatest country in the world.
