2 Characteristics of Successful People

Can you name the 2 Characteristics of Successful People?

Recently I have met and visited several very successful people. In our conversations I have noticed they all share two characteristics – a clearly defined goal and the expectation of success.

Successful people know what success looks like. They can see it, hear it, feel it, smell it even taste it. They know what success is in all five senses.

They don’t say “I want to be successful”, they say I want to be the CEO of a medium sized manufacturing company in the aerospace industry with these attributes, then can name at least five qualities that this company will possess.

They write down their goals and share them with others. They track their progress toward the goal, at the end of the day they ask what have I done today to get me closer to my goal. They know when they are making progress and when they are standing still or sliding back into old habits.

The second characteristic is an unfailing expectation of success. They know without a doubt that they will be successful. This allows them to take risks and learn from their mistakes. To succeed one must move outside one’s comfort zone. Stepping out of our comfort zone is exactly what it sounds like – uncomfortable. But without discomfort there is no growth.

They are aware that there will be setbacks, that plans will go awry. They also know that they can put the train back on the tracks. They have perseverance, they don’t fold at the first roadblock, they continue working their plan with the confidence they will succeed.

Utilize these two characteristics in your job search – set a defined goal, monitor and track your progress and have the tenacity to persevere through the setbacks.
