Eat Your Toad First

Eat a Toad

Early in my career I worked with an engineer who had a picture of toad on his desk.  This was a huge, fat, green, slimy, wart infested toad.  It had to be one of the ugliest creatures on earth.  The caption read, “Eat a live toad first thing in the morning, the rest of the day has to be better.”

The takeaway I get from this caption is that we all have our toads.  It is that thing we dread doing, it is the person we don’t want to confront, the task we keep putting off.  Unfortunately, putting it off doesn’t make it go away, it only grows and makes us dread it more until it becomes so large and fearful that we are paralyzed into inactivity.

Identify your toad. Don’t let it grow.  I’ll tell you a secret, toads are easier to eat when they are small.
