Embracing the Blessings of Labor

Fulfillment in Every Task: Embracing the Gift of Purposeful Work

I grew up in a home where everyone in my family learned from our parents that work is a gift from God.  We looked forward to the work before us each day, including the chores assigned, as well as the work we got paid for.  My dad told us kids to always give your employer more value for the dollar than they paid you in wages. He said if we did that, we would never go for long without a job or income for our work.  He worked as a family practice physician into his 83rd year of life and served as a pastor in our church.  He loved every minute of his life and work.

May I challenge you to think of this Labor Day holiday as a time to reflect on the blessing that work has been in our lives.

Some reasons work is good:

  • Work is a creation of God and He described it as “very good”.
  • Man was the one that rebelled and then work became difficult.
  • Rest from work is important and something that we need on a regular basis to keep us strong.
  • Work should be done for a higher purpose and must be for our good as well as for the good of others.
  • Work gives us the opportunity to serve others.
  • Work has rewards attached that we sometimes do not see immediately.

May you have a refreshing holiday and come back to work with the zeal that makes it fun for not only you but for those you work with and serve.

I am thankful and refreshed for a team of employees that love the work that we get to do together to serve our community and our God.

Let’s celebrate the labor that built up this great land, from field to field, desk to desk, they built it hand in hand.
